No shortage of funds for health; Setting up new health facilities need of hour: Yasmin

Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid has stated that there is no shortage of funds for health as both Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar are keen to provide top quality health facilities to people of Punjab.

Setting up of new health facilities is the need of the hour in the wake of increasing population. The expansion of services at teaching hospitals of Lahore is of paramount importance. Within the current year, two to three new hospitals shall be fully completed.

She said on Monday that expansion in capacity of existing Teaching Hospital is extremely important given the increase in population in the provincial metropolis. Chairing an important meeting at the office of the Infrastructure Development Authority (IDAP) Punjab, the health Minister said that two to three major hospitals will be completed within the current year. Present in the meeting were Secretary P&D Mujahid Sherdil, Special Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Dr. Asif Tufail, Special Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Dr. Farrukh Naveed, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti and officers of the IDAP.

The Health Minister reviewed 14 projects of the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department and the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department. These 14 projects include 200-bedded Mother and Child Hospital at Mianwali and Nursing College, 200-bedded Mother and Child Hospital at Attock, 200-bedded Mother and Child Hospital at Layyah, 200-bedded hospital at Rajanpur, setting up of a new hospital in Balochistan, 1000-bedded phase 1 facility at General Hospital, Setting up of Trauma Center and Emergency Center at Jinnah Hospital, Emergency and Trauma Center at Services Hospital Lahore, University of Child Health Sciences at Lahore, Institute of Cardiology at Dera Ghazi Khan, Nishter-2 Teaching Hospital in Multan, Sheikh Zayed-II Teaching Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan, Pilot project at Zahir Pir in Rahim Yar Khan. Secretary P&D Mujahid Sherdil gave a briefing to the Health Minister on the ongoing development projects.

The Health Minister said, “All ongoing projects in health sector are being regularly reviewed and they will be completed within stipulated deadlines.

Projects on this scale have never been initiated at this scale. After the addition of new hospitals, new health facilities shall be available to thousands of patients. There is no shortage of funds for health.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar are keen to provide top quality health facilities to people of Punjab. Setting up of new health facilities is the need of the hour in the wake of increasing population.
