Meeting for examination reforms, exam boards held

On the direction of Federal Minister for Education Mr. Shafqat Mahmood, IBCC held a meeting in Sindh Assembly Building Karachi regarding examination reforms.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Ismail Rahu, Provincial Minister for Universities and Boards, Sindh. The meeting was attended by CEO Punjab Examination Commission, Secretary IBCC, Chairmen FBISE, Chairmen BISE Peshawar and all Chairmen of Educational Boards of Sindh.S

The meeting was held in connection with 170th IBCC Forum meeting wherein, it was unanimously resolved that examination and assessment pattern may be shifted from rote learning to conceptual learning by introducing Student Learning Outcome (SLO) based examination.

During the meeting, CEO Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) Mr. Tahir Iqbal, Chairman Federal Board Mr. Qaiser Alam and Chairman Peshawar Board Prof. Nasrullah Khan gave a presentation on examination reforms which includes introducing automation of examination for improving efficiency and transparency, conducting curriculum based examination, capacity building of examination staff to make assessment more valid and reliable, developing central item bank, enhancing security system at examination centers to curb cheating and other malpractices, e-marking to ensure job smarter and faster and establishing research section in boards for analysis and future improvements.

The chairman federal board, Qaiser Alam offered their services and applications free of cost to all examination boards.

A three-member committee has been constituted under the direction of Provincial Minister for Universities and Boards, Ismail Rahu, which will review all the details and present its recommendations to the minister for the implementation of examination reforms. The members of the committee are Additional Secretary for Universities and Boards, Government of Sindh, Chairman BIE Karachi and Chairman BISE, Benazirabad Nawabshah.

At the end of the meeting, Secretary IBCC Dr Ghulam Ali Mallah thanked the Provincial Minister for Boards and Universities Ismail Rahu and other participants.
