Rural Sindh population mainly depends on livestock-based food chain and this was crucial need of area to save livestock heads for sustaining nutrition, income and asset, said speakers on the occasion of vaccination against Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) campaign kicked off for Umerkot district with support of UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) here at Umerkot, the other day.
Imran Jakhro from FAO said that PPR is highly contagious silent killer disease mostly affects to herds of goats and sheep, the mortality rate of this viral disease is more than 90% if outbreak takes place, mostly in winter season.
