Webinar on Dengue awareness held

A webinar on Dengue Awareness was held at the University of Okara where the guest speakers including Prof Dr Nusrat Jahan from Government College University Lahore and Muhammad Asif Mehmood from Institute of Public Health delivered lectures on various global trends of dengue control.

The event was organized by Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid, Director, Institute of Applied Zoology, and Dr Sajjad Sarwar, Focal Person Dengue Control Program.

At the beginning of the webinar, Dr Wajid highlighted his institute’s interventions in controlling the spread of dengue at the campus and in Okara and its vicinities.

He told that he and his team had organized a serious of awareness sessions and rallies at various community centers and educational institutes in order to sensitize the public on prevention of dengue.

Dr Nusrat talked about different latest methods, being deployed worldwide, to hamper the growth of dengue mosquitoes. She stressed on adopting an environment friendly approach to control this disease.

Asif discussed vector surveillance and control mechanisms and argued that integrated vector management was necessary to avoid dengue pandemic.

Dr Sajjad highlighted the importance of active community participation and sensitization for dengue control.

More than 100 research students from various departments of the Faculty of Life Sciences attended the webinar.
