ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court of Pakistan Tuesday ordered the authorities concerned to retrieve the land reserved for a park by demolishing all illegal constructions including a mosque, shrine and graveyard.
The top court has given seven days to the authorities to restore the Kidney Hill park near Karachi’s Tariq Road, local media reproted.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Gulzar Ahmed was hearing a case related to construction of the mosque at the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry. The hearing was attended by Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab, the Karachi commissioner and other officers.
The chief justice inquired from Murtaza Wahab why he did not take action against the “illegally constructions” on land meant for a park.
Responding to the query, Wahab replied that the administration will take action if it is ordered by the court.
At this, CJP expressing surprise said that it is the part of administrator’s job to stop such illegal activities. These are places of residence and not places of worship, Justice Qazi Amin remarked.
During the hearing, the court expressed anger over the Karachi administrator and East district municipal commissioner for not being unaware of the exact limits of Tariq Road.
The CJP remarked that the city suffered irreversible damage due to the poor administration.
