Remembering Benzir Bhutto

December 27, always reminds me of first female Prime Minister of Muslim World – Benzir Bhutto. She was a brave, visionary daughter of the East. Muhtarma always talked about human rights and tried to solve grievances of unprivileged people of Pakistan.

The ex-PM was a leader of hearts of laymen. But unfortunately, after her demise, PPP is in the grip of Waderas and feudals who always work for their own well-being instead of common people. The PPP is almost made up of these feudals who are not less than a Mafia for people of Sindh.

Therefore People of Sindh request PPP Chairman, on her mother’s martyrdom, to listen to grievances of common people and work for resolution of various socio-economic problems.

Increasing beggary

Beggary is one of the alarming social issues and it has grown tremendously during the last two years in D. I. Khan. Beggars are seen everywhere in markets, outside the mosques and in the streets. The majority of the beggars are children and women, and they are forced by their parents and husbands to earn money.

I have personally observed that a lot of beggars are drug addicts and able bodied but they impersonate to be disabled or handicapped in order to gain sympathy of people to earn money. Now it has been adopted as a profession and found it easy to earn money and food with little efforts.

Dozens of incidents happened where beggars are involved in crimes of stealing and snatching. I do not mean that all beggars are involved in illegal activities, but now it has become difficult to differentiate the needy and the one who is pretending to be needier. The government should launch operation against it to segregate the needy and provide them jobs and aids to eliminate beggary from our society.

Fake medicines

Health is a blessing bestowed by Allah the almighty. It is important because without good health life is not useful. Unfortunately, our health is being destroyed by various fake medicines where hundred of people including women and children annually die in Pakistan because of fake medicines. According to a WHO report thousand of people lost their lives due to expired and fake medicines. The main reason behind fake medicines is irresponsible companies and lust for more profit. Government must act against such companies who are destroying health of people.

Corona rules

During these times of Coronavirus and Omicron scare, we need to be more vigilant and follow all rules related to Corona strictly. People are known to wear mask on their necks. Such careless behaviour will only lead to increase in the number of Corona cases. People should continue to follow measures to reduce their risk of getting infected with Covid-19 by wearing well-fitting masks, following hand hygiene and physical distancing, improving ventilation of indoor spaces, avoiding crowded spaces and getting vaccinated.

Deforestation

Forests play an important role in the development of a country. They are considered natural. According to the experts, forests should cover at least 25 per cent of the total area of a country. But unfortunately, in Pakistan, only 4.5 per cent of the total area is covered with forests. Deforestation is a main environmental concern in the world.

Deforestation includes cutting down, burning and destructing of forests. It is the link in a chain of environmental degradation that includes erosion, climate changes and air pollution. The forests are being cut down at a terrifying rate to supply man with timber. The effects of deforestation can be devastating and deforestation can damage the environment. So, I request to all individuals don’t cut trees and avoid deforestation.

Mental health

Many people in the country are facing some mental health issues owing to mammoth social, psychological and financial problems that they face daily. The swelling inflation, unemployment and so many other dilemmas are affecting the life of people at every stage including Corona pandemic.

Needless to say that government must place some helpline numbers that may be connected to mental health professionals. Pakistan has deficiency of mental health professionals and that must be addressed on a priority basis. Both federal and provincial governments must evolve strategies to help people in this regard.
