Thick fog in most areas of the country on Thursday morning disrupted flights operations at the airports, departure of trains and traffic on motorways and highways.
At the Allama Iqbal International Airport of Lahore where the runway has been shut down since 8:00 pm Wednesday night, a number of flights were cancelled, others delayed and a few were diverted to other destinations. Thick fog has reduced the visibility at the airport’s runway to just 50 metres, which led to cancellation of five flights and changes schedule of 17 other flights.
PIA’s two-way flight from Lahore to Gilgit 607/608, two-way flight coming from Karachi to Lahore 302/303 and flight 186 coming from Sharjah were all cancelled. Sharjah-bound flight PA-412 which was due to take off at 12:00 midnight now was left at 12:00 noon. Abu Dhabi-bound flight PA-430 which was due to depart at 12:30 midnight was now left at 12:00 noon.
Qatar Airways flight QR-621 which was due to leave for Doha at 3:00 am was now left at 12:15 pm. Toronto-bound flight which was due to leave at 7:15 am was now departed at 2:00 pm.
Turkish Airways flight TK-715 which was due to take off at 8:00 am now left at 6:00 pm. British Airways flight BA-258 which was due to leave at 9:00 am now departed at 1:15 pm. Turkish Airways flight TK-714 which was due to touch down at 5:30 am now landed at Lahore Airport at 4:14 pm. British Airways flight BA-257 which was due to land at 7:00 am now touched down at 9:50 am.
According to the sources, the airlines administrations have informed the passengers about the change in the flights operations.
