Governor Sindh hails services of Pakistan Red Crescent

On the instructions of Imran Ismail, Governor of Sindh and President of Pakistan Red Crescent (PRC) Sindh, Vice President of Society Sardar Yasin Malik presided over the PRC-Sindh Provincial Branch’s Triennial General Meeting on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

On the recommendation of the Governor, he also nominated Samar Ali Khan as Chairman and Sardar Yasin Malik as Vice President of Society.

The house also elected the Managing committee members for the next three years.

Earlier, in an Extraordinary General Body Meeting of the society, all the members approved amendments in the constitution of PRC-Sindh.

The meeting was attended by a large number of annual and Life members.In a message issued from the Governor House, the Governor of Sindh said that he is pleased to see the tremendous progress made by the Red Crescent-Sindh in various fields like health, Disaster Management and especially the COVID-19 pandemic response.

It is also highly appreciable that the Red Crescent Sindh has done a remarkable job in providing the free COVID-19 testing facility and vaccination service at the doorsteps of the general public.

Besides the COVID-19 emergency, the Red Crescent has maintained its trend to provide phenomenal assistance amid disasters in various districts of Sindh, added Governor Imran Ismail.

He appreciated the dynamic leadership of Chairman Shahnaz S.Hamid, her team and volunteers for keeping the flag up of the humanitarian services.

Chairman Pakistan Red Crescent-Sindh Shahnaz S.Hamid presented the four-year report 2018-2021 of Society’s activities.

She said that during the period under review, the society remained operative in major disasters and emergencies and provided relief in time of need to the most vulnerable.

Chairman Shahnaz Hamid stated PRC-Sindh raised awareness about COVID-19, offered free coronavirus testing, equipped hospitals with PPE kits and disinfectants, distributed food and cash grants to afflicted families, and established COVID-19 mobile vaccination units.

“In addition, we conducted rescue and relief operations during the drought in Tharparkar and monsoon rains and floods in Karachi, Dadu and other parts of Sindh,” she uttered.

Chairman further said that PRC-Sindh successfully completed several other unique initiatives, including empowering women in Tharparkar via livelihood support, strengthening coastal communities in Sindh, and signing a declaration on climate change adaptation with various stakeholders.

In her concluding remarks, Shahnaz Hamid lauded the dedication and efforts of all members of the Managing Committee for their tremendous work with great determination, zeal and managed to procure Funds.

She also thanked the honourable Governor of Sindh for taking great interest in the activities of the Provincial Red Crescent as the President of the organization.

The house elected eight members of the Managing Committee including, Barrister Khuwaja Naveed, Dr.Mehboob Alam, Dr.Majid Alvi, Dr.Syed Ali Warsi, Barrister Asfandyar Jahangir, Javed Sheikh, Tariq Meon, and Anwar Hussain Siddiqui.

The chairmen of the district branches of the Red Crescent also presented the reports of their respective districts.

The Honorary Treasurer, Dr.Majid Alvi, presented the Audited Account Report for 2017-2020 and the Budget for 2022-2025.

Vice President Sardar Muhammad Yasin Malik and the Chairman Shahnaz Hamid, Vice Chairman Rafique Ahmed Jaafery, Honorary General Secretary Tariq Moen and Junaid Ali Shah presented awards to the Managing Committee of PRC-Sindh and shields to the staff members.

Provincial Secretary Kanwar Waseem was honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award for his 30 years of service in Pakistan Red Crescent Sindh.
