The killer dengue outburst is still continue in Punjab province as the virus has claimed another six lives in the province, taking the toll to 118.
Five of the deceased belonged to Lahore and one hailed from Sheikhupura, health official said on Sunday.
According to Primary & Secondary Healthcare Punjab Secretary Sikandar Baloch, 279 dengue cases were reported in Punjab during last the past 24 hours.
As many as 217 cases were reported from Lahore yesterday. From Rawalpindi 14 cases; from Gujranwala 12 cases; from Sheikhupura 7 cases; from Faisalabad and Kasur 4 cases each; from Narowal 3 cases; from Multan, Vehari and Sialkot 2 cases each; and from Attock and Bahawalnagar 1 case of dengue was reported yesterday.
This year, there are 23,576 dengue patients in Punjab whereas in Lahore the total number of dengue patients is 17,027. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 77 people were diagnosed with dengue virus.
According to the KP health department, the total number of dengue patients in the province is 9,969. So far 9 people have succumbed to the virus in the province.
Seventy dengue patients are being treated in different KP hospitals. In Peshawar, dengue virus was detected in 5,258 people. In Khyber Teaching Hospital, 22 and in Lady Reading Hospital, 11 patients of dengue are under treatment.
