European Union’s Ambassador Andro ulla Kaminara called on Deputy Speaker, Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Ms Rehana Leghari, at her chamber at Sindh Assembly to discuss topics of mutual interest including strengthening of capacity of parliamentarians and parliaments.
During the meeting, the EU ambassador briefed at length the ongoing activities and projects initiated by European Union in Pakistan including strengthening of parliament and provincial assemblies, local bodies elections, implementation of Child Marriage Retrain Act, political, social and economic empowerment of women and other mutual interests.
The Deputy Speaker thanked the ambassador for his arrival to the Sindh Assembly and presented him a traditional gift of Ajrak. He visited the old and historical building of Sindh Assembly and appreciated the preserving work of the archeological building.
Laghari assured that the Sindh government and the Sindh Assembly would work together with the European Union in all the projects initiated by the European Union for trade, political and economic development in Pakistan. She further said that access of Pakistani products to European markets was very important which could enhance the economic conditions and productivity of Pakistani products.
The deputy speaker said she had attended various informative forums organized by the European Union through NGOs, which provided guidance on the legislative process. She further said that the Sindh Assembly is better than other assemblies in legislation on protection and welfare of women and children and this has been acknowledged by representatives of social organizations on many occasions. She further said that the exchange of parliamentary delegations could be a good opportunity for the members of the assemblies to strengthen conduct of political and ideological training together
