Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid has said that the Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) has registered 120 organ donors so far while directions have been issued to set up a donor bank.
Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid waschairing a meeting held to review progress of Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority at the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department here on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Ahmed Javed Qazi, Acting Director General PHOTA Dr. Murtaza and other officials. Dr. Murtaza presented the performance update of the Authority.
Dr. Yasmin Rashid said that the PHOTA is now registering more hospital for organ transplant. A regular Director General will be appointed very soon in the authority.
The PHOTA has been restructured according to vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, she said adding that organ donation is an act of great virtue and there must be proper strategy to create awareness among public about it.
Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi said convincing people for organ donation is challenging work and a registry shall be developed for donors’ data.
