Afghanistan’s electricity body, De Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) said that it will pay off all its electricity debts to exporting countries.

On Monday, November 15, Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) in a Tweeter series said that the Taliban have not paid millions of dollars of electricity bills to central Asian countries and warned that electricity to Afghanistan will be cut.

The spokesperson of DABAS, Hekmatullah Noorzai said that they will pay off all the debts to central Asian countries to prevent electricity from getting cut.

It comes as DABAS started cutting electricity to residential areas and some factories that have not paid their bills yet.

Earlier, the Taliban officials had warned to be selling homes and estates of the previous leaders who have not paid a penny of the bills in the past two decades.

The DABS owes central Asian countries namely Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan over $60 million.

It is worth mentioning that the Balkh province governor in his meeting with Uzbekistan’s special representative for Afghanistan asked the country to give them time for paying the bills until the banking system gets fixed.
