DUBAI – The Taliban government has appointed a diplomat to run Afghan embassy in Islamabad, reports said on Friday.
The Taliban, who gained power in Afghanistan in August after toppling Ashraf Ghani’s government, have sent Mohammad Shokaib, who will work as first secretary or charge d’affaires at the embassy.
Shokaib will not be able to formally hold the title of ambassador as Pakistan has yet to recognize the Taliban government in Afghanistan.
The Afghan embassy was running without a top diplomat since the Ghani administration called back its envoy over the alleged abduction of his daughter in Islamabad.
Furthermore, the Taliban have also appointed two officials at its consulates in Quetta and Peshawar in order to facilitate the people.
Pakistani officials are yet to confirm the development.
