After the addition of 75 more cases during the last 24 hours, the total number of dengue patients has reached 2275 at the allied hospitals of the city since the January of this year.

District Coordinator Epidemics Prevention and Control(DCEPC) Dr Sajjad Mehmood told media that 2201 patients had been discharged after recovery, adding Holy Family Hospital (HFH) had registered 1375 positive cases of dengue fever, District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) registered 308, while 592 had been registered with BBH so far.

The health officer added that out of the total confirmed cases reported so far,1423 belonged to the Rawalpindi district, while the remaining other districts included the Federal capital area.

Dr Sajjad informed that among the 75 new cases reported during the last 24 hours with 15 belonged to the Rawalpindi Cantonment area,11 from Potohar Town, seven from Metropolitan Corporation Rawalpindi, four from Chaklala Cantt and one each case arrived from Taxila rural and cantonment areas while the addresses of the remaining patients were not confirmed yet, “he added.

He urged the residents to keep their water tanks clean and not leave any place wet with stagnant water.

“Presently 77 dengue patients are under treatment in HFH, out of which 44 are positive, five positive out of 10 BBH and 25 confirmed cases out of the total 43 admitted in DHQ,” he added.

In reply to a question, he said some dengue patients required transfusion of platelets.
However, the blood bank of the allied hospitals has sufficient quantity to meet the demand for blood and platelets, the health officer added.

He said platelets were needed when a patient’s blood does not have average clotting ability.
“Fever may lead to bleeding, low level of platelets and blood plasma leakage, or into dengue shock syndrome, which is low blood pressure,” he said.

Dr Sajjad said a full-scale fumigation drive was underway in different district localities, primarily where dengue larva has been found.

He advised the residents to take precautionary measures and not to panic as dengue fever is curable with timely and proper treatment.
