PET CT Scan made functional for cancer patients at Kiran Hospital

Director, Kiran Hospital Karachi Dr Akhtar Ahmed has said that state-of-the-art PET CT scan has been made operational for cancer patients and more modern diagnostic facilities for cancer will be provided in future.

He expressed these views while talking to reporters at his office. He said that Kiran Hospital is one of the 18 centers of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in the country where cancer patients are being treated since 20 years. The center caters cancer patients all over the Sindh province.

Dr. Akhtar Ahmed revealed that breast cancer is common in women while mouth cancer is more prevalent in men.

He said that 5500 different types of cancer are being registered in Kiran Hospital annually while daily OPD is around 700.

All cancer patients are treated at Kiran Hospital Karachi while poor patients are given free chemotherapy in collaboration with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal and other charitable organizations.

Dr Akhtar Ahmed said that the number of cancer patients is increasing due to which the demand for qualified medical staff in the center is also increasing.

He said that Kiran Hospital has been providing treatment facilities to cancer patients for twenty years with the help of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and modern machinery has also been brought to the hospital.
