ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court Monday turned the bail plea of Zakir Jaffer, the father of Zahir Jaffer, the prime accused in the Noor Mukadam murder case.
The apex court however granted bail to Asmat Adamjee, Zahir’s mother, against surety bonds worth Rs1 million. The court observed that the mother of the prime suspect was not present at the scene when the murder of the young girl took place.
Zahir’s parents had challenged the ruling of the Islamabad High Court that had rejected their bail petitions.
A three-member bench of the apex court, comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, and Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin, was hearing petitions filed by Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee.
During the hearing, petitioner’s counsel Khawaja Haris said that his clients have been accused of concealing the murder.
During the hearing, the court also discussed the telephonic contact between Zahir and his parents on the day of the murder.
The Islamabad advocate-general told the court that 11 phone calls were made by Zahir’s mother to her son on the day of the grisly murder.
To which, Haris said that call records have no legal value in the case.
At this, Justice Shah remarked that even if the call records are ignored, one wonders why Zakir Jaffer did not inform police about the murder.
