Bloody clashes between the two groups over land dispute in Dir on Monday left at least seven people dead and sixteen others critically wounded.

The doctors said the death tally may go higher as around half a dozen injured were in precarious condition.

“At least seven people were killed and sixteen oth-ers were injured in an armed clash between two groups during a Jirga in Upper Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)”.

The Police said adding the firing incident took place in Upper Dir’s area of Ganu Cham, where a Jirga was in progress to settle an old dispute between two groups.

Seven people lost their lives on the spot, while 16 others sustained bullet wounds. The injured and bodies were moved to the Upper Dir District Head-quarters Hospital.

The death toll is feared to mount as the medics in DHQ hospital have described the condition of six injured as critical.

The police have reached the crime scene and cor-doned off the area. “Initial reports suggest the firing started after an argument over some property is-sues,” the investigation officer said, adding that they have begun collecting evidence from the site.

On Sept 17 too as many as nine people were killed and 12 injured during a funeral in Lower Dir’s Tormang area.
