Sindh Minister for Irrigation Department Jam Khan Shoro has said that Indus River System Authority (IRSA) was constituted for the purpose to ensure the distribution of water shares among the provinces equally but, it has been failed to implement on the water accord 1991.
He said that injustices are being done with Sindh province on its supply of due share of water resulted Sindh province is facing severe water shortage. He was talking to mediapersons at his office hereon today.
The Minster for Irrigation department said that last year IRSA claimed that country was facing acute water shortage and it is also mentioned in the water accord 1991 that how to ensure water proportion to provinces on an equal basis in water shortage situation.
He said that kharif season begins in the month of April in the province and IRSA even failed and delayed to supply water to Sindh province during kharif season due to which Sindh province faced more water shortage.
He informed that Sindh irrigation department sent a letter to Indus River System Authority (IRSA) over transferring of water through CJ and TP link canals and demanded its immediate closure but no positive response has been given by them.
He added that due to severe water shortage in the province the standing crop is turning pale and keenjhar lake’s level of water is also decreasing.
Shoro said that IRSA should immediately supply Sindh province’s share of water so that standing crops in the province can be saved from destruction.
