K-Electric’s customer-centric initiatives for industries such as a faster and simpler application process with the option of online form submission, reduced documentation, e-payment option for new connection estimate, online cost calculator and online case tracking were highlighted during the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) exhibition held at a local hotel today.
Prime Minister Imran Khan delivered the keynote and. The high-profile event was also attended by David Malpass, World Bank Group President, Abdul Razzak Dawood, Federal Advisor to the PM on Commerce, Textile, Industry & Production Investment and Zubair Gilani, Chairman Board of Investment, among others.
Over the years, the power utility has taken several initiatives to facilitate industrial customers, some of which include exempting them from load-shed, adding new grids to meet their growing power demand, reducing turnaround time to provide new industrial power connection, conducting energy audits to help them improve their energy efficiency.
These initiatives have not only been well received by industries but also acknowledged by the World Bank in the global Ease of Doing Business Ranking. In the parameter of Getting Electricity, Pakistan gained 44 positions from 167 to 123 this year. Pakistan gained 28 positions overall, from 136 to 108 based on initiatives across several indicators under the EoDB Score.
The power utility has also made the new industrial connection application process simpler by reducing the number of prerequisites along with offering one-window solution at KE’s 30 Customer Care Centres located across Karachi and has also created a dedicated new connection Corporate Help Desk for industries.
According to Spokesperson K-Electric, “The power utility is continuously upgrading its infrastructure and is working on a USD 3 billion investment plan over the next four years to boost generation and transmission. These initiatives include a 900 MW RLNG-based and 700 MW coal-based power plant. Apart from this the ongoing TP-1000 project is also underway to add 1,000 MVAs of transmission capacity to the network. KE will continue to introduce more customer-centric initiatives for industries under the Getting Electricity indicator, which is also in line with our objective to further enhance Pakistan’s ranking in the global Ease of Doing Business index.”
Rasheed Jan Mohammad, former president of Bin Qasim Association of Trade & Industry (BQATI) appreciated the heightened accessibility of KE to industries, while also acknowledging the improvement in electricity supply, “One of the most laudable steps taken by KE is the exemption from load-shed because industries need uninterrupted power supply to be productive.”
