Five universities from Pakistan have secured a spot, for the first time, in the TIMES University Rankings of 2022, with three of them ranked in the world’s top 800.

The universities include Government College University Faisalabad, Hazara University Mansehra, International Islamic University, Islamabad University of Malakand and the University of Peshawar.

“The TIMES University Rankings is one of the most prestigious global rankings. While the UK has 101 Higher Education institutes and China has 97 institutions among top all 1,600 universities ranked, Pakistan has 21 universities in the list,” said a statement.

“Among the rankings, Pakistan also emerged as one of the fastest improving nations on a range of key metrics.”

“Pakistan has, for the first time, 36 universities in The Impact Rankings 2021.” It further said that the country now has a record total of 21 ranked institutions.

Pakistan is now also among the top five countries in terms of teaching, learning, research, facilities etc, particularly in the categories of research citations, international outlook, and industry linkages.

“On teaching score and Citation scores, the performance improvement is among fastest world over,” the statement added.

“This is also demonstrated by huge score improvement in publications, staff, and teaching reputation: these are strongest performing indicators within Pakistan.”

“Similarly, NUST is the 67th leading university working on affordable and clean energy. All of these are key areas and part of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

“In line with PM’s vision of a green Pakistan, for the first time ever, University of Agriculture Faisalabad is now ranked top 24th globally for climate action,” the statement further said.

The average score change for 2021-22 is better than that of India. Subject-wise, improvements in business and economics, life sciences, and physical sciences have demonstrated the most robust results.

These results were generated after a review of 108 million citations and 430,000 data-points from participating institutions.

The statement further added that it was the special focus and reforms led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government and the efforts of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) team that helped in putting Pakistan in the front row of countries making great improvements.
