Islamabad’s Covid-19 cases jump past 96,000; positivity rate stands at 7pc

The federal capital on Tuesday reported 381 new cases of Covid-19 against 5,436 tests conducted in the past twenty-four hours.

According to the District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia, the positivity rate of Covid-19 was 7.01 per cent and the total number of cases in the capital city after the 381 new infections had climbed to 96,771.

After a single expiry in the last twenty-four hours, the total number of fatalities stood at 952. According to the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC), the city’s total recoveries stood at 90,234.

Prime Minister’s special assistant on Health Dr Faisal Sultan on Tuesday while replying to the questions of the media persons made it clear that a booster shot would be considered for frontline health workers aged above 50 after six months of their second dose.

“If we take a decision, it will be implemented from Oct 1,” he said. He added that the second category under consideration for a booster shot was fully vaccinated immune-compromised people and if permitted, they could get the booster jab six months after their complete vaccination.
