Accepting the plea of the oil marketing companies (OMCs) about the single bench’s decision, the Lahore High Court (LHC) Tuesday restrained the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for taking action against the companies.

The LHC division bench comprising of Justice Jawad Hassan and Justice Raheel Kamran Sheikh heard the intra-court appeal against the single bench decision.

The LHC, halting FIA action, summoned the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) chairman, Federal petroleum secretary and the additional director-general of the FIA at the next hearing of the case.

Justice Jawad remarked that there was no need to form a commission on the petroleum crisis when OGRA and the Ministry of Petroleum were existed to address the matter.

He further asked that it should be explained why the commission changed the TORs made by the High Court? And, what steps did the Cabinet Division take on the commission report?
The lawyers for the appellants argued before the court that the single bench of the LHC had given verdict in the case without hearing the oil companies.

The lawyers also argued that OGRA had already imposed fines to the oil companies but the FIA had initiated action against the oil companies in the light of the single bench decision.
