After recording the highest number of Covid-19 cases a day earlier on Saturday since April 23 this year, the Islamabad admin has closed down the Faisal Masjid and the road leading to the Pir Sohawa and Monal, three popular tourist points of Islamabad.
The step has been taken to prevent the virus spread in the federal capital, said the District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia while talking to Pakistan Observer on Sunday.
Islamabad on Sunday reported 444 cases of Covid-19 and one death in the last twenty-four hours taking the overall number of cases to 93,783 in the federal capital and the casualties 831.
According to the district administration Faisal Masjid and the road leading to Pir Sohawa and Monal were closed for traffic of all kind as still the people of the city were in festive mood and the feeling of joy and festivity was high due to the Independence Day celebrations.
The step has been taken to check the spread of Covid-19 which is already on the rise in the capital city, they said.
After the rain overnight, the weather has turned pleasant and the residents of Islamabad and the neighbouring Rawalpindi are visiting various tourist points of Islamabad these days.
Moreover, the Independence Day celebrations have also contributed to people’s heading towards Islamabad’s scenic destinations.
Families, tourists, particularly youngsters remained on roads on August 13 and on August 14 taking silencers out of their bikes, playing music and dancing, etc.
