Punjab Energy Minister Dr Akhtar Malik has announced Rs1 million cash prize for Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem who stood at fifth place in the Tokyo Olympics javelin throw competition.
The minister said, “I would like to announce a cash prize of Rs1 million on behalf of the Energy Department under its Sports Scholarship.”
The minister said that the Energy Department would also bear the cost of training of Arshad Nadeem from the best countries of the world.
Dr Akhtar said that sports facilities across Punjab would be shifted to solar this year.
Arshad Nadeem at one point in the competition was placed as high as fourth before being surpassed by rival athletes. India’s Neeraj Chopra claimed gold, whereas Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch and Vitezslav Vesely claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.
