Heavy rain coupled with strong wind lashed the provincial metropolis in the wee hours of Friday.
The downpour inundated roads and streets in different areas of the provincial capital and residence faced immense difficulties as rainwater entered their houses in some low-lying areas.
The monsoon rain spell turned the city’s weather pleasant while the Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the next two days.
Dozens of LESCO feeders tripped due to heavy rain and strong wind in the city, resulting in power outage in various areas. Almost half of the city was without electricity.
According to details, the rainwater also affected traffic flow on various roads. CTO Muntazir Mehdi has directed the DSPs to stay in touch with the Wasa management.
He said that rainwater accumulated on the road from GCU to Istanbul, Church Chowk and Mori Gate towards Bhatti Chowk while rainwater is accumulated at Ada Crown area Aik Moria, Do Moria Pull area, Lori Ada, Shahdara and Farrukhabad areas, which severely affected routine of the life besides hampering traffic flow.
The CTO further claimed that traffic wardens are standing in rainwater and performing their duty.
He, however, said that traffic flow on Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Gulberg Main Boulevard and Canal Road continued smoothly. He also instructed all traffic lifters to stay in low-lying areas to help motorists.
The traffic police chief appealed to the citizens to avoid touching electric installations in the rainy season to avert any mishap.
Rain was also reported in other parts of the province including Murridke, Sukheke, Chiniot, Gujranwala and various other areas.
