The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday declared the commercialization fee being charged on Jail Road, Gulberg and Model Town areas of the provincial capital as “illegal”.
The LHC pronounced the verdict against the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) after seven long years and declared the commercialization fee as ‘illegal’. Justice Ayesha A. Malik gave the verdict on 73 petitions filed in LHC between 2014 and 2020 against the fee being charged by LDA.
The judge had reserved a verdict in the identical cases in December 2020. In the verdict, Justice Ayesha writes that as per LDA Rules, 2020 collecting fee on the already approved commercial roads was illegal.
