Spouse of Punjab Chief Minister Mrs Sophia Usman on Thursday said that planting trees is the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) and is a charity that will benefit the coming generations for a long time.
She was speaking after planting a sapling at Government Graduate Apwa College under monsoon plantation drive and inaugurating “Plant for Pakistan’s Day campaign in Girls Colleges by cutting the ribbon.
She also cut a cake at the auditorium with the staff. Director Colleges and faculty members were present on the occasion.
Mrs Sophia Usman appealed to the students to take an active part in the tree plantation drive as trees to tackle challenges being posed by the climate change.
“Plantation will benefit future generations as it helps to protect the environment and wildlife,” she stressed.
Principal Dr Naima Khurshid said that one million saplings will be planted across Punjab under the Plant for Pakistan Day campaign.
A target of 500 and 200 saplings has been fixed for large and small-scale colleges in Lahore, she informed.
She underscored that more and more plantation is need of the hour to combat various problems and provide a clean environment to the new generations.
“Everyone should, at least, plant a sapling to play one’s part as it is a nation responsibility and collective efforts will help the country tackle all environmental issues.”
The CM’s spouse called for a vibrant approach towards tree plantation, saying the youth should take part actively in the plantation.
She regretted that rapid deforestation has resulted in various calamities for the human-beings like floods and landslides.
