Punjab Minister for Law and Cooperatives Raja Basharat on Monday said that after a long time, the PTI government has taken solid measures and provided new vehicles to the Punjab Police to strengthen the department.

While replying to MPAs questions regarding the Home Department on during Punjab Assembly session, Raja Basharat informed that ample funds have been earmarked in the current budget for setting up 97 new patrolling posts across the province.

He said that a vigorous campaign has been launched across the province for arrest of proclaimed offenders and the Punjab Inspector General Police (IGP) has been monitoring this crackdown in all districts on monthly basis.

“The IGP collects report about the number of POs arrested during the campaign every month.

The minister said that action us also being taken against the officers responsible for poor performance against the POs.

Raja Basharat said that the Buzdar government has declared the current fiscal year as the year of construction and repair to police stations, adding that no budget has been allocated for the residences of police officers.

“Unlike the previous government, we have freed the police from all pressures due to which they report crime without fear and favour.”

He regretted that the opposition has been calling great performance of the police an increase in crime rate.

Responding to the objection of PML-N MPA Tahir Khalil Sindhu, Raja Basharat said that PML-N leader Ata Tarar and his associates stormed the police station last day and tore off uniforms of the police officials. “This attitude of one to take the law into own hands should be changed.”

The minister said that the police have registered a case against those responsible for this incident and action will be taken against them according to the law.
