Opposition parties in the Lower House of Parlia-ment on Friday strongly reacted to extension of ordinances and demanded of the government to stop the ordinances issuing factory by the government.

The fundamental duty of the National Assembly is legislation and if the government also take up this duty from the parliament then what is the aim of this house, said PPP leader Naveed Qamar. Whenever a bill was passed by either house, it was properly discussed with due diligence.

Contrary to it, the ordinance was directly promulgated without any consideration, discussion and consultation and termed it the most controversial method of legisla-tion.

Though there was provision of ordinance in the Constitution but it was used under extreme emer-gency situation.

The PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal was of the view that ordinance and then its extension meant to ridi-cule the legislative process.

Some ordinances were very serious implication on general public but the government promulgated it, he regretted.

About extension for further 20 days on Regulation of Gen-eration, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power (Amendment) Ordinance, 2021, he said it was promulgated just to please the IMF. Shahida AkhtarAli regretted over the extension of ordi-nances.

PPP’s Nafeesa Shah claimed that privilege of this house is compromised again and again through these ordinances.

She regretted that the government through an ordinance wanted to reduce the tenure of Chairman HEC from four years to two years just to remove a chairman who could not obey the illegal orders of government.

Khurram Dastagir of the PML-N said the existing chairman HEC was work-ing under the law but the federal minister for educa-tion did not like him.

That was why effort was made through ordinance that his tenure was reduced to two years from four years.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf was of the view that legislation was done for the whole country and not for any specific party and all parties should be taken into confidence on it. He asked the ruling party to con-vince the opposition members why you wanted to reduce the tenure of HEC chairman.

The entire opposition walked out against the prom-ulgation and extension of various ordinances in the House.
