City Coronavirus positivity ratio climbs to 10.71pc

The coronavirus positivity ratio in the metropolis failed to drop below 10%, Sindh Health Department said, as the ratio hit 10.71% on Thursday.

The health department said 3,888 COVID-19 cases were recorded in the first week of July; 80 people succumbed to the virus in the metropolis, while 36,296 tests were conducted.

In the first week of July, 21 people died in District Central, 19 in District West, 16 killed in District East, 12 in District South, eight in District Korangi, and four in District Malir.

Another 24 people lost their lives to COVID-19 in Pakistan in the last 24 hours, the latest statistics by the National Command and Operation Centre showed Thursday morning.

During the last 24 hours, most deaths occurred in Sindh followed by Punjab. Out of the 24 deaths in the last 24 hours, 15 people died on ventilators.

The NCOC stats revealed that 1,683 people tested positive for coronavirus after 50,531 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.

The country’s positivity rate currently stands at 3.33%, with the number of daily cases gradually going up again. At present, the active number of cases is 34,531.

Meanwhile, as many as 14 more patients of Coronavirus died overnight lifting the death toll to 5,566 and 920 new cases emerged when 16,102 tests were conducted. This wassaid in a statement issued here on Thursday.

16,102 samples were tested which detected 920 cases that constituted 5.7 percent current detection rate.

He added that so far 4,630,601 tests have been conducted against which 344,206 cases were diagnosed, of them 91.9 % or 316,281 patients have recovered, including 398 overnight.

Currently 22,359 patients were under treatment; of them 21,590 were in home isolation, 65 at isolation centers and 704 at different hospitals.

He added that the condition of 648 patients was stated to be critical, including 55 shifted to ventilators.

According to the statement, out of 920 new cases, 534 have been detected from Karachi.

According to the report Karachi East reported 206 cases, Karachi Central 136, Karachi South 77, Korangi 58, Karachi Malir 32 and West 25.
