66 persons test positive after 2,225 tests conducted in 24 hours

After easing lockdown restrictions, a slight increase in the Covid-19 positivity rate has been witnessed in the capital (2.25 per cent) on Saturday from Friday’s 3.7pc.
The number of casualties however remained the same at 779 without any death in the last twenty-four hours.
According to District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia though positivity declined on Saturday, yet still it was high.
On Thursday it was 1.9pc. After 2,225 tests conducted in twenty-four hours, 66 persons tested positive showing above 2 per cent positivity, Dr Zaeem further said.
He called upon the residents to beware of mixing and observe facemask and social distancing in order to check spread of Coronavirus.
Recently, a sharp increase has been recorded in the number of coronavirus illness, COVID-19 cases reported from Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district as in Rawalpindi, another 104 patients have been tested positive for the infection in the last 24 hours that is the highest number of cases reported in a day from the twin cities in the last four weeks.
The virus claimed another life from Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours taking the death toll from the district to 994 on Friday while 779 patients from ICT had already died of COVID-19. Confirmation of 104 new cases took tally from the region to 107,636.
The number of cases being tested positive from the region has been registering a significant increase for the last three days with reporting of 226 new cases in the last 72 hours recording over 75 cases on average per day.
It is alarming that the number of active cases from the federal capital is also on the rise for the last two days as 71 active cases have been added to the existing pool of active cases from ICT in the last 48 hours.
According to In-charge District COVID-19 Cell Rawalpindi Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Jawad Zahid, a total of 27 patients have been tested positive in the district against 1324 tests conducted in the last 24 hours that amounts to a positivity rate of 2.03 per cent.
Besides another 73 patients have been tested positive from ICT and 31 from Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours.
From Rawalpindi district, a total of 24,857 patients have so far been reported of which 994 have lost their lives while 23,711 have recovered from the illness.
A day earlier on Friday, there were a total of 152 active cases of the disease from Rawalpindi.
According to District Health Office Rawalpindi, as many as 21 patients belonging to the district were hospitalized in town while some 131 were in isolation at their homes.
To date, a total of 82,779 patients have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 from ICT of which 80,978 have recovered while 779 have lost their lives.
On Friday, the number of active cases from the federal capital jumped to 1,022 after the addition of 50 active cases in the last 24 hours.
