In order to increase global competitiveness of Pakistani rice, the Ministry of Commerce and International Trade Centre (ITC) Geneva are holding seminars in different cities of the country and the sixth one will be held in Swat on Monday.
According to a statement issued on Friday, these seminars aim to educate stakeholders about the im-portance of good agricultural practices and maxi-mum residual levels (MRLs) for cultivation as well as export of rice.
These seminars are being held under the ReMIT Project funded by Foreign, Commonwealth & De-velopment Office (FCDO), in major rice growing areas of four provinces.
So far these seminars have been held in Lahore on 21st of June 2021, Faisalabad on 22nd June 2021, Bhawalnagar on 24th June 2021, Naseerabad on 28th June 2021, Larkana on 30th June 2021 and will be held in Swat on 5th of July 2021. These seminars will form the basis for increasing global competi-tiveness of Pakistani rice.
These seminars are the first step towards the Minis-try of Commerce’s outreach programme which will be run through social media and radio channels, said the statement.
The aim is to spread the information to the grassroots level targeting rice growers, mill-ers, pesticide companies and provincial agricultural extension departments.
Through a consultative approach, the Ministry of Commerce intends to devise a comprehensive plan of action to increase competitiveness and enhance market access in global export destinations of rice, according to the statement.
The statement said that the Ministry of Commerce would like to acknowledge and appreciate the sup-port provided by the ITC Geneva, UK’s FCDO provincial agriculture departments, REAP), NRSP and TDAP for their col-laborative efforts.
