Human rights policy has been implemented in Punjab first time in the history in the tenure of incumbent government besides a single national curriculum is being ensured, said Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs (HR&MA) Ijaz Alam Augustine.
He was speaking at the provincial advocacy forum organized by SPO in collaboration with Punjab HR&MA Department here on Monday. Punjab Government Spokesperson Musarat Jamshed Cheema attended as guest of honour.
Lawyer Iftikhar Ahmed, DG Punjab Women Authority Irshad Waheed, representatives of civil society, academia, police, lawyers and representatives of other concerned departments were also present in the forum.
SPO’ Regional Head Mr. Shah Nawaz Khan briefed all the participants about project ARC (accessing root causes), SPO intervenes at a grassroots level to bridge communication gap between communities and justice providers and to empower communities with legal knowledge and wants to formulate a policy with the confidence of all stakeholders, which would ensure equitable delivery of justice in the society while the entire participants presented various proposals to strengthen the weaker sections of the society.
In his address, Ijaz Alam Augustine said that the department of human rights has given many suggestions to the concerned departments on prison reforms while submitting reports to the Supreme Court after every three months regarding condition of prisons.
He said that series of police training being ensured to protect human rights especially for children and women while working on interfaith policy in Punjab.
Musarat Jamshed further said that we all have to work together especially through media to create awareness campaign to end all forms of discrimination.
Legal expert Iftikhar Ahmed and DG Women Authority Punjab Irshad Waheed, Assistant Director of Human Rights Umar Khan also spoke on the occasion.
