Sri Lankan spinner Amila Aponso, who is leaving for the USA on Monday has “no grudge” against the selectors.

The 27-year-old slow left-arm orthodox spinner has tendered his retirement letter to the CEO Ashely De Silva on Sunday, though he was not a contracted player.

“I have no ill feelings towards the SLC (for not being selected to play for the country)”, he said over the telephone from Colombo. “I have informed them officially about my migrating to the USA”.

“But yes, I have mixed feelings about leaving the country. I will miss my family of two elder brothers and parents there. But I am excited to be leaving for better opportunities and prospects”.

Aponso, however, will have his wife Nethma with him. “She is a primary teacher and will undertake a new job there only after six months”.

Minor League Aponso’s first engagement in the USA will be to play the Minor Cricket League (MCL) in the USA.

The MCL is the T20 tournament in the US that is sanctioned by USA Cricket, and internationally recognized by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“I will be playing for the Atlanta Fire team. Will also do some coaching in the USA”, he added. There are 24 teams participating in the League this year. Sri Lanka’s other recently migrated player-Shehan Jayasuriya is to play for the Silicon Valley Strikers team.
