Four members of a same family including a woman and her three minor sons were crushed to death while her husband and a daughter sustained severe injuries when a speeding bus hit the bike they were travelling on.
According to rescuers and traffic police, the gruesome accident occurred at Kahna Bus Stop on Ferozepur Road on Friday.
The rescuers informed that the woman and her three sons died on the spot while her husband and daughter were rushed to hospital in critical injuries.
According to Deputy Superintendent Traffic police Arif Butt, a motorcyclist was travelling along with his wife, three sons and a daughter, when a speeding passenger bus rammed into the bike near Kahna on Ferozepur Road.
As a result, the woman and her three minor sons lost their lives on the spot, while the man and his daughter were left severely injured. The bus driver fled the spot after the road crash, Butt added.
Soon after the accident, relatives of the ill-fated family came out on Ferozepur Road and blocked it in protest against the loss of their loved ones due to rashness on the part of the bus driver.
The protest suspended traffic entering and exiting the city and blocked for quite some time.
Later, the police talked to the protestors and restored the traffic. The police have registered a case against the fleeing driver and launched further investigation.
