PPP Central Information Secretary and MNA Shazia Atta Marri has said that, once again, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has violated the Constitution by passing a resolution to extend the NAB Amendment Ordinance despite not meeting the full quorum.
Such an extension is deemed to be illegal and unconstitutional and we strongly condemn this act.
She said this in her video message posted on twitter account on today.
Shazia Marri said that it was decided regarding assembly sessions during amid of Covid-19 that no important legislation would be carried out unless the opposition parties were taken into confidence but sadly today, the extension of the NAB Amendment Ordinance was placed on agenda without taking the opposition into confidence. “PPP leader, Sayed Naveed Qamar had also raised objection on it,” she added.
Marri said that ordinances cannot be allowed to pass neither can extension to ordinances be given in this manner and opposition was told that no legislative business would be brought unless the opposition was given prior notice of 3 days.
She added that the speaker of National Assembly refused to make count when an opposition member pointed out about incomplete quorum.
She added constitution was violated because despite quorum being pointed out by an opposition member, the speaker did not order count of the members, and he had to start the count but instead he continued the proceeding just because the government wanted to extend the ordinance.
Marri further added that we cannot allow the extension of the NAB Amendment Ordinance in this manner unless there would be a debate on it.
The PPP leader concluded that regrettably, today the Constitution of Pakistan and the rules of the National Assembly have been violated once again and the way in which the NAB Amendment Ordinance has been extended is an illegal and unconstitutional step.
