Shafqat likely to announce ‘good news’ after Eid

Zubair Qureshi

The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has finalized its recommendations with regard to teachers serving in rural as well as urban schools of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) on deputation under wedlock policy for the last many years.

These teachers have been demanding from the FDE to consider them for induction in the schools as the FDE schools are already under-staffed and the rules also allow annual absorption of these teachers on a 10 per cent quota basis.

Last month, a four-member committee of the FDE had interviewed them individually on the directions of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to consider their case for permanent absorption in the FDE schools with the condition they fulfilled the prescribed criteria.

These recommendations have been submitted to the Director General and Minister for Education & Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood will take a final decision on this, said an official of the FDE while talking to Pakistan Observer on Monday.

Hopefully, after Eid, the Minister will likely announce the ‘good news’ for these teachers at a press conference along with these teachers’ representatives.

It may be mentioned here these teachers are settled in the federal capital for many years and their children are studying at the capital’s educational institutions, said the official adding the matter would be resolved then once for all.

These teachers belong to all the four provinces, AJK and Gilgit Baltistan and most of them have no one back home in case they are repatriated and asked to join their parent departments.

While welcoming these positive vibes from the FDE, a number of lady teachers welcomed the step saying the PTI government had proved a real blessing for them as in the past no successive government paid any attention to the deputationists’ problems.

Interestingly, there was a 10 per cent quota for deputationist teachers in the FDE schools and the directorate had been inducting teachers under this 10pc till 2010.

After 2010, the induction process was stopped causing great inconvenience to these teachers
Another official of the Education ministry said, dislocating these teachers after they rendered commendable service for the FDE by giving their best to the students and the FDE would be a great injustice.

Shafqat Mahmood in a TV interview had also hinted that 80pc to 90pc of these teachers would be inducted while other members of the Federal Cabinet including Ali Muhammad Khan and Pervaiz Khattak had also assured these teachers would not be repatriated to their provinces as it would mean putting them to huge trouble and exposing them to coronavirus.
