ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar Friday shared a picture showing the processing of Chinese CanSino vaccine at the National Institute of Health.

Sharing the photo on Twitter, he said: “The first batch of bulk cansino vaccine being processed at the national Institute of health plant set up for this purpose last month. Specially trained team working on it”.

He said that single-dose vaccine will be available for use in Pakistan by the end of May, adding that rigorous quality control tests will be performed before its use.

Pakistan has become one of only 11 vaccine-producing countries worldwide.

On Thursday, Pakistan received the first batch of China’s CanSino COVID-19 vaccines that the government purchased in bulk.

The bulk vaccines is being packaged locally to strengthen fight against COVID-19.

On Monday, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Faisal Sultan said that the local production of the single-dose CanSino COVID-19 vaccine is being started in the country to boost the vaccination drive.

In late March, Pakistan had received the first batch of finished CanSino COVID-19 vaccines from Chinese company.

Earlier, the third phase trials of the vaccine had been carried out in Pakistan and it is the second Chinese COVID-19 vaccine approved for emergency use in Pakistan.
