The City Police on Wednesday arrested ‘notorious criminal’ Khawaja Aqeel alias Gogi Butt and around dozen of his accomplices during a raid on his house in a private housing society of the metropolis.
Initially, CIA Iqbal Town also arrested his two sons namely Hamza and Abdullah and his nephews in the raid but released them later.
Confirming the news of arrests, Gogi’s family accused police of vandalizing household items during the raid.
The police inserted sections related to terrorism, of possessing unlicensed weapons and others in the case registered against Gogi Butt and 12 other suspects.
The First Information Report states that a large number of weapons were also seized from the arrested persons during the raid.
The police charged Gogi Butt with providing shelter to criminals and facilitating suspects involved in land grabbing, kidnapping, and extortion.
Four other people, including Butt’s son and trader Sheikh Ashfaq, have been arrested too. The police said that Ashfaq has also been named in a murder case in Ichhra.
The police seized seven rifles and a pistol from the suspects. Further investigation is underway.
