The Sindh Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control Department foiled attempts to smuggle 465 kg of Charas and 400 kg of bhang into the province during four major operations in the last fortnight and also arrested five accused involved in drug trafficking.
According to details, Sindh Excise Department on Thursday foiled an attempt to bring a large quantity of Charas to Karachi.
During a search of truck number TKK-245 at Jacobabad check post near Agriculture College Shikarpur Road Jacobabad, 140 kilo gram of Charas was recovered and accused Muhammad Tahir resident of Jamshoro was arrested. Excise team also seized the truck used in smuggling.
A case has been registered against the accused and investigation has been started.
Earlier, 125 kg of chars was recovered during a check at the same check post and one accused was also arrested.
Meanwhile, in two separate operations at Rohri check post, 200 kg of chars and 400 kg of bhang were recovered and three accused were arrested.
Meanwhile Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control Department & Parliamentary Affairs, has lauded the recent actions of the Sindh Excise Department against drug dealers and hoped that the officers of the department would continue to take similar action against drug dealers and foil any attempt to bring drugs into the province.
He further said that drugs are poison for the young generation and there is a need to create awareness among the young generation to prevent drug use.
