UVAS providses up-to-the-mark healthcare facilities to animals: VC

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) has been providing treatment facilities to around 500 injured and disease inflicted animals at all its five campuses across Punjab every day.
This was stated by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha in an interview on Sunday in connection with the World Animals Day celebrations.
He said that the university had established a Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which provides help to the owners of domestic animals as well as farmers for protecting their animals against diseases, especially during changing weathers.
VC Pasha said that UVAS had upgraded its Pet Hospital with Rs 30 million to provide up-to-the-mark healthcare facilities to animals.
He said that UVAS also provided healthcare facilities to animals at Lahore zoo through its vet doctors’ visits there or bringing the animals to hospital in an ambulance if need arises so.
Highlighting the services of its Pet Hospital, the VC said that the hospital was playing a remarkable role in imparting training to UVAS students and opportunities of research about prevention of diseases and preparation of many vaccines.
He said that UVAS labs had also prepared a very low cost foot and mouth disease vaccine in the recent past.
Its UVAS which provides ambulance and extension ambulance services to animals for those farmers and other pet owners who are unable to shift their large animals to the hospital of the university.
UVAS is providing all kinds of healthcare facilities to animals and birds on the basis of no profit no loss policy. He said that trends of keeping pets and birds are increasing in urban population, especially dogs, cats and birds which need specific look after including vaccination to save them from any disease.
