The first meeting of the Implementation Committee of the Provincial Coordination and Implementation Committee (PCIC) was held on Wednesday at the head office of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation under the chairmanship of Administrator Karachi and Chairman of the Implementation Committee Laiq Ahmed.
The meeting was attended by representatives of K Electric, Sui Gas, Cantonment Boards and department heads of KMC.
The meeting considered issues which could lead to disputes between the citizens of Karachi and various utility and LG facilities.
Due to obstacles in the way of speedy completion of works, it was decided at the meeting that K Electric and KMC would conduct one-stop operation for road cutting, billing, uninterrupted supply of street lights and payment of arrears.
The meeting was informed that due to the limitations and ownership claims of various institutions on Faisal Street in Karachi, various issues have been pending for the last several years and a committee has been constituted to resolve them.
The Administrator Karachi has told K Electric not to turn off the street lights at least during any important event taking place in the city.
Peace exercises in Karachi involving different countries of the world were going on while PCL Matches are also being held in Karachi which is the reason for its prosperity but it is surprising that the street lights have been switched off in the meantime.
He said that there are 106 roads under the management of KMC on which road cutting or any other activity Only the MC can give permission. If any other body issues an NOC, it is illegal.
The meeting also discussed in detail the ongoing operation on Mahmoodabad and Gujranwala while the operation on Orangi Town Nalla.
