Says formation of new LB system is an important part of PTI manifesto
Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has said that local bodies would be formed in different cities of the province in proportion to the population so that the problems of the citizens and daily issues could be resolved in the best possible way.
He stated this while chairing a high-level meeting held at Chief Minister’s House on Monday which discussed in detail the New Local Body System in Punjab.
Provincial Ministers including Law Minister Raja Muhammad Basharat, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Hashim Javan Bakht, Sibtain Khan, Mian Khalid Mehmood, Hasnain Bahadur Dareshk, Sardar Asif Nikai, Chaudhry Akhlaq Hussain and Chaudhry Zaheer Uddin participated in the meeting and presented various proposals for the establishment of New Local Bodies in Punjab.
There organization of Local Government System included the formation of Municipal Committees, Town Committees and Metropolitan Corporations in various cities of the province. Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Aleem Khan said that Prime Minister Imran Khan wants a strong Local Government System in Punjab as the formation of local bodies is an important part of the manifesto of the present Government which has been successfully tested in KPK province in the last tenure.
He said that appropriate changes would be inculcated in tehsils and villages of Punjab as well and different proposals are being considered in this regard. Different suggestions have been tabled for which deliberations have been initiated among the provincial ministers and various aspects of Local Government Act 2019 are being considered, he added.
During the meeting, the Secretary Local Government presented the proposals prepared by the Local Government Department for different cities on which the participants expressed their views.
It is noteworthy that this high level committee was formed by the Chief Minister headed by Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan while it was the third meeting to discuss the Local Government Act 2019 in detail for the establishment of new local bodies institutions in Punjab.
