Islamabad police on Monday failed once again to come up to the expectations of the people as it played the role of a silent spectator while cameraman of a private TV channel was subjected to torture and attack by the accused in Fahad Malik murder case along with their accomplices inside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Judicial Complex, Sector G-11/1.
According to details, the cameraman Nasir Mughal was recording footage of the accused as they were brought to the court for hearing. However, the accused and their visitors didn’t approve that act of Mughal and brutally attacked him and broke his camera and cell phone also.
The role of the Islamabad police during this episode posed a big question mark on their conduct and professionalism as the video footage of the incident clearly showed it was taking place with their connivance.
The attack by Arshad Raja, Noman Yqoob and Raja Hashim and their accomplices left Nasir Mughal bruised and there was blood all over his face and
body.
In his application submitted to Ramna Police, Nasir Mughal submitted that as he was recording footage upon the arrival of the accused in Barrister Fahad Malik’s murder case Raja Arshad, Noman Yaqoob and Hashim, they along with their visitors Ansar, Humayun, Asad and Taimoor attacked him and subjected to him torture.
They threatened to kill me and snatched my cell phone also, further submitted Nasir Mughal in his application. Police while I was being tortured stood there silently and didn’t do anything, said Naisr Mughal in his application.
Barrister Fahad Malik, the nephew of former Senate chairman and incumbent Federal Minister for Privatization Mohammadmian Soomro, was murdered at F-10/3 Sector in Islamabad on August 15, 2016.
Later in November 2018, the ATC in Islamabad indicted Raja Arshad, Noman Khokhar and Raja Hashim for the murder of Malik. However, all of them pleaded not guilty. When contacted Ramna police said an inquiry was ordered in the incident.
After the incident, the court reporters staged a protest demonstration against the accused and brought the matter to the attention of the court. Later, on the judge’s intervention, police arrested two accused Asad and Humayun for injuring the cameraman.
