Pakistan chose Sinopharm vaccine for Corona: Nausheen

Parliamentary Secretary of National Health Services Dr Nausheen Hamid said on Wednesday that Sinopharm has been selected for Corona vaccination in the country.
Talking to media Dr Nausheen Hamid said that the government has also been in contact with four other vaccine companies and talks for procurement of Covid-19 vaccine have been in final stage.
The parliamentary secretary said that Pakistan has chose Sinopharm vaccine for advanced booking. “The consignment of the vaccine is expected to arrive in Pakistan at the end of February or beginning of March,” she further said.
She said that over three lakh health workers have registered themselves for vaccine, “hopefully vaccination will begin from the next month,” health official said.
Meanwhile, the coronavirus pandemic claimed 55 more lives during the last twenty-four hours in the country, said the National Command and Operation Centre on Wednesday.
According to the NCOC, as many as 2,123 new cases of the coronavirus were reported over the previous 24 hours after 39,450 samples were tested. The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country has soared to 508,824 with addition of the fresh infections while the countrywide death toll jumped to 10,772.
According to Punjab’s healthcare department, the province recorded 509 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday and 24 more fatalities. Since the Covid-19 outbreak began last year in February, Sindh has reported a total of 228,949 infections, Punjab 146,525, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 62,018, Balochistan 18,467, Islamabad 39,462, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 8,521, and Gilgit Baltistan 4,882.
