In preparation for further cuts in the budget for the supply of medicines to hepatitis patients, the Specialized Department sought approval from the government to make further cuts in the budget of Rs. 35 crore for medicines for hepatitis patients.
The Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education has sent a summary to the Chief Minister’s House seeking approval to make a further cut of above said amount. Earlier, a cut of Rs 23 crore had been made from hepatitis funds, which approved the purchase of an MRI machine at Jinnah Hospital.
Specialized department officials say they are giving Mayo Hospital an additional Rs. 35 crore from the budget allocated for hepatitis patients. These funds will be spent on the expansion of the Neuro Surgery Department at the Hospital.
Health department officials said that due to non-allocation of funds in the budget this year, these funds will be taken from the hepatitis block allocation budget.
