The bomb disposal squad (BDS) officials have defused a ‘remote-controlled explosive device’ attached with a magnet from a vehicle near Bilawal Chowrangi in the metropolis on Tuesday. Two unidentified men on a motorcycle have planted ‘a remote-controlled explosive device attached with a magnet’ on a vehicle parked near Bilawal Chowrangi (roundabout) in Karachi. The discovery of the suspicious thing created panic among citizens who were present at the locality. Police teams have immediately rushed to the site and summoned the Bomb Disposal Squad at the scene. Police told the media that they found ‘black-coloured explosive material’ in the device. After the BDS officials came in, the explosive device was defused after being removed from the vehicle. Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) South Zubair Nazir Shaikh said police took immediate action after getting information of the suspicious device via 15. He confirmed that the device was planted for an explosion on a vehicle which belongs to a private restaurant. He added that the restaurant’s employees were also present inside the car. SSP Shaikh said that the police department will release more details after getting a final report from the BDS team that is ascertaining the genre of explosive material. Heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area. The bomb disposal squad revealed that there was a magnetic chip installed in the car which has been disposed of. “A man working in the neighbourhood said that two men on a motorcycle had installed the chip in the car,” South SSP said. The CCTV footage obtained by the police showed the men. One of them was wearing a helmet. Two employees of the hotel were sitting in the car, the officer revealed, adding that the vehicle has been seized by the police. Investigations have begun, he added.
