Bureaucracy is on strike on Monday in South Punjab including Multan and other tehsils including Faisalabad, Kharian, Khushab after Sahiwal (Sargodha posting) Assistant Commissioner Raja Haider handcuffed in court for half an hour on alleged non-compliance of court orders. It is pertinent to note that the court arrested the assistant commissioner for non-compliance with the orders and handcuffed him for half an hour in Multan.
The move has sent an anger wave among government officials of Pakistan Administrative Services (PAS) and Provincial Management Services (PMS). Assistant Commissioners and staff from across South Punjab, including Multan, went on strike, the TV channel reported. Assistant Commissioners across South Punjab refused to work in Multan as well as Land Record Centers, Metropolitan Corporation Offices are also supporting the strike to show their anger on the issue. The TV channel reported, the government machinery has stopped working due to due to the strike.
Anjuman-e-Patwaris in Khushab also announced pen-down strike across the district and announced protest against the move, On the other hand, Young Pakistan Administrative Service Association said: “We strongly condemn the unfair treatment metted out to Assistant Commissioner Sahiwal (Sargodha) by member of Lower judiciary. We will take up this matter with PMS counterparts and extend our complete cooperation.”
Assistant Commissioner Bhera Mohammad Murtaza tweeted: “It is a horrible insult to esteemed institutions of the State of Flag of Pakistan when the personal vendettas of a person in power (civil judge Naeem, in this case) bring disgrace our officers’ Civil servants work for respect and such a violation of rights is condemnable.” He further said, “Really overwhelmed by the solidarity and support that is pouring from across the province.
The revenue field staff, ARCs and clerks of all departments have observed a complete pen-down strike in Bhera, in Sargodha and across many other districts.”—INP
