Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser Thursday assured that the government would protect the rights of media workers and he would take up their issue of pending salaries to help resolve them.
Speaking at the oath taking ceremony of Parliamentary Reporters Association (PRA) here, the Speaker said that he would give representation to journalists in the committee which would take up the issue of media tribunals. The recommendations of media men would be taken seriously.
He said Pakistan since its existence had faced economic challenges due to different wars including wars with India, Afghan war and war on terrorism.
He said the war on terror had affected the country’s economy and caused tragedy in every province and city.
The United States watched its own interest and left the region ignoring the numerous sacrifices by Pakistan’s armed forces, police and civilians, Asad recalled.
“We are going through transition. There is no danger to democracy and people will hold their leaders accountable.”
With the passage of time, Pakistan will become true democratic country, he added.
The Speaker said internal election should be held in political parties and workers should have right to elect their leaders.
If elections were held in parties the workers would take ownership of their party, he added.
Asad Qaiser said a leader would respect the workers if he would get elected with their vote.
He said Parliamentary Reporters Association was an important and strong organization.
He assured the representatives of the association that he would sit with them along with officials of Capital Development Authority (CDA) to resolve their problems and upgrade the PRA office.
