The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday declared former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif proclaimed offender in Al-Azizia and Avenfield corruption references.
A two-member bench, comprising Justices Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani gave this order while hearing two appeals by the former premier against his conviction in the two references.
We have decided to declare the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a proclaimed offender in the Al-Azizia and Avenfield references, said Justice Aamer Farooq adding the court would pass a short order regarding the proclamation of the convict and would also issue show-cause notices to the sureties.
During the hearing, the court recorded the statements of the Foreign Office Europe-I Director Mubashir Khan and Federal Investigation Agency official Ejaz Ahmed.Mubashir Khan, in his statement, told the court that he had received the advertisements for Nawaz’s summons that were issued by the court and had sent the same to the Pakistan High Commission in London. The official said that Nawaz was informed about the proclamations through Royal Mail and confirmation of delivery from the mail service was received on November 30.
Deputy Attorney General Tayyab Shah told the court that proclamations issued by the IHC were published in all newspapers in English. A letter was also written to an Urdu daily published from London, he told the court.
